Pneumatic Actuators, NovAseptic Range

NovAseptic valves are renowned for their performance, reliability, longevity and ease of maintenance. The design and development of each component draw on more than 35 years of experience focused on aseptic design. NovAseptic valves comply with the design qualification criteria established by current GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) for aseptic processes. This is why we have chosen to describe these valves as aseptic by design.

The range was originally developed to address the challenges of tank bottom valves: no dead zone, self-draining and fully drainable, low pressure drop, the smallest possible weld-in flange diameter to bring the agitator closer to the centre of the tank, very simple maintenance since this valve is generally not accessible, diaphragms suited to the materials of pharmaceutical process tanks, and compact or right-angle actuators. This design was then extended to 2-way or 3-way valves, offering an aseptic alternative to the in-line diaphragm valve.

The range is modular. NovAseptic valve bodies are available in imperial sizes, from 1/2″ to 3″. On each body configuration with the same process connection diameter, all diaphragms, actuators and accessories of that same size can be fitted.

Pneumatic actuators for NovAseptic valves

Pneumatic control NC, NO or double position, all stainless steel, ATEX version available

Pneumatic actuators for NovAseptic valves, normally closed, normally open or double position. All-stainless or stainless steel base versions, and an ATEX version for classified zones. Remote control by compressed air, suitable for automated control and hard-to-reach valves. Fit all NovAseptic bodies of the same diameter, from 1/2″ to 3″.

Role and selection

The pneumatic actuator operates the valve by compressed air, enabling remote control and automation. The choice of fail-safe position, normally closed or normally open, defines how the valve behaves if the air supply fails. The double position handles three-way valves.

Normally closed, NC, closes the valve if the air supply fails, the default fail-safe position on most lines. Normally open, NO, leaves it open, chosen when flow continuity is the priority. The double position controls both diaphragms of a three-way valve.

The ATEX version type AX110 allows installation in explosive atmospheres. The all-stainless version suits washed areas, the stainless steel base with plastic handle suits less exposed installations.

Available versions

Pneumatic actuator Type Use
NC, all stainless steel 110 Normally closed, washed areas, fail-closed safety
NC, plastic, stainless steel base 111 Normally closed, less exposed installation
NO, all stainless steel 100 Normally open, flow continuity is the priority
Double position, all stainless steel 140 3-way valves, control of both diaphragms

Frequently asked questions

NC or NO?

Normally closed closes the valve if the air supply fails; this is the default safety setting. Normally open leaves it open, chosen when flow continuity must be maintained. The choice depends on the safe state of your process.

When is the ATEX version needed?

In a classified explosive atmosphere. The type AX110 actuator is designed for these zones. Outside classified zones, the standard type 110 is sufficient.

How do I control a 3-way valve?

With the type 140 double-position actuator, which controls both diaphragms of the three-way body to divert or mix the flow.

Do they fit all bodies?

Yes, on all NovAseptic bodies of the same diameter, tank bottom and process alike.
